Who can resist the lure of schadenfreude of FMyLife? Tales of heartache and woe. It's a giant FAIL database that provides hours and hours of reading pleasure.
So of course, when F-MyLife app hit the #1 free app slot in the App Store, I knew I wanted to know a bit more about the developer who jumped on the wonderful API provided by the folks at FML.
Enormego is a small New York based development house founded by Shaun and Saverio who are trying to stay small and agile as they continue to develop awesome web, Mac and iPhone apps. Some of their products include Heartbeat (a product geared towards other iPhone devs), Reader and Groundwork (an app that works with 37Signals Basecamp.)
The Enormego iPhonespaz Interview
Jamie: First, congratulations are in order for capturing the #1 slot with FML! We know you have big plans for the next version. What can you tell iPhonespaz readers?
Enormego: Version 1.5 of F-MyLife hit the AppStore this week; however, we have another app called F-MyLife Pro in review with Apple which should be hitting the store soon. The Pro version is only 99 cents and it has a ton of great new features. We're really excited about it. We'll continue to provide the free version along side the Pro version.
Jamie: Sweet! How many apps do you have on your personal iPhone and what got you hooked on the platform?
Saverio: I'm actually very anal about which apps get the privilege of staying on my iPhone. I try a lot of apps, but only about 10-15 actually get to stay.
Shaun: I'm the same as Saverio, only the best make it. As for what hooked us on the iPhone, simply put, it's awesome. If I had to pick one thing, I'd say it started back in the Tool Chain days. We had these awesome phones, and we couldn't even do things that our crappy old phones could do. The frustration of not being able to expand on such an awesome device is probably what got us hooked the most.
Jamie: So with such a tight list, I'll bet you have a tough time picking the one you couldn't live without?
Saverio: Yes, tough question...I'd have to say Tweetie. It's a phenomenal Twitter app and it was truly done right. We love seeing quality apps make it to the Top 10, it's nice to see that the hard work of our fellow iPhone developers is paying off.
Shaun: I'd go with either Flight Control or Tweetie, but Galaga is making its way up my list too.
Jamie: As active developers, what other features would you like to see in the next version of the iPhone?
Shaun: I'd LOVE to be able delete an individual phone call...is that too much to ask Apple?
Saverio: A video camera app would be nice...but maybe that's pushing it.
Jamie: Ok guys, last question... What would you do without your iPhones?
Saverio: Not sure really. Although, if I leave the house without my phone, I feel completely lost for the whole day. Thinking back to the days of my Motorola RAZR v3...I don't know I survived.
Shaun: I definitely have to agree with Saverio. The phone before my iPhone was a crappy Samsung flip phone that I got for free from AT&T. Scary stuff.
Jamie: Thanks a lot for the interview, guys. Pretty amazing work you're doing. Keep it up!
