Post image for Reason #153 Why my bank is the most AWESOME bank in the world

I could begin this review by singing a little song to the tune of "My Dogs Bigger than Your Dog" but I have been told that if you can't say something nice...

Actually, I'm here to tell you why USAA is the world's coolest bank. And while you might think that this has absolutely nothing to do with the iPhone, I am here to tell you that you are just flat out wrong. Lots of banks are developing iPhone apps to serve their on-the-go customers, but none that I know of have what USAA is offering.

Deposit@Mobile.

"What is Deposit@Mobile?" you ask? Well, I'll tell you. Through this special magic portal, you are able to take a picture of the front and back of a check and USAA will deposit that money immediately into your bank account. [enter sounds of trumpets playing triumphantly] Right now, USAA is the only bank in the iTunes store offering this fantastic technology.

That, my dears, is why why my bank is better than your bank. And that is also why you should rush right out and get yourself a USAA account too (eligibility requirements may apply). And without further ado, I will show you exactly how easy it is to deposit a check via your mobile phone. Here's what you'll need:

  • an iPhone with the USAA [iTunes store link, free] installed.
  • a valid check (yes, I said valid... I'm not condoning any kind of funny business here)
  • a dark unreflective surface (flip that mouspad over!)

Now, first thing you do is log open the USAA app, and volia! there's a perfect little button for Deposit@Mobile. You'll be asked to log in to your account and away we go! Click on the thumbnails below for a full tour!!

(Click on the thumbnails to see larger images)
Tap the Deposit@Mobile button to get started
After confirming your account info, select your account and enter the check amount Some friendly instructions on how to capture the best photo See how nice the mousepad background looks?! More friendly instructions, including a reminder of what account number you need to write on the back! After confirming your account info, select your account and enter the check amount
Fancy, huh? Before depositing, you get a quick preview window Feel free to begin singing the Jeopardy song, but don't be surprised if you don't finish it. Alacazam! Deposited money!! Finally, scroll down for more friendly instructions on what to do with your newly deposited check (i.e., shred!!)

In the previous review of Genealogy applications, we looked at applications that are stand-alone GEDCOM viewers. As we found, these were helpful for a quick, nitty-gritty search when on-location for hard-copy genealogy research. However, they did not (for the most part) allow genealogists or family historians make changes to their ancestors directly in [...]

Genealogy On-The-Go
When I go off into the world of paper and archives I like to have my whole family tree with me. My whole family tree amounts to over 7,000 individuals at this juncture in my research. You can imagine the number of tour buses that I’d have to rent in order to [...]

How many times have you been out somewhere and come across a product that looks just awesome but you’re convinced you can find it for cheaper somewhere else? Or how about if you’re headed out to the store to pick up a few grocery items and you arrive only to find out that you [...]

At some point, I’ll tell you the story about the Obama cookies that finally pushed me over the edge to buy an iPhone. But at the moment, I want to talk about CameraKit, Photogene, and Bare-Chested Legos.
Bare-Chested Legos
Just the other day I was walking through Target and I came across this Indiana Jones Lego [...]
